range of counselling for relationships, grief, stress & depression

General Counselling

Counselling and therapy are the main services offered at the St Marys / Penrith Psychological Services. Primarily, the workers at the St Marys / Penrith Psychological Services assist clients to become empowered and help themselves. This process is a difficult one, as it involves confronting established (often unconscious) patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. With the help of a Psychologist however, within a safe and accepting environment, this process can be achieved successfully.

Because of the range of expertise amongst the professionals at the St Marys / Penrith Psychological Services, problems and issues are addressed on a professional, confident basis. The centre offers confidential counselling / therapy in:

Abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) / domestic violence

Post traumatic stress / critical incident debriefing

Mental health e.g. depression, bipolar, obsessive-compulsive, psychosis, anxiety, paranoia

Grief/ change/ loss counselling e.g. reproductive loss

Anger management

Hypnosis e.g. for smoking, weight issues

The ageing process (change, loss, pain, readjustment, death)

Grief and loss counseling

Although common to life?s journey, grief/ loss/ change can be difficult to address and process... especially when not expected or desired. Grief, loss and change are experiences, which often lead others to give advice about how to do them ?properly?. There is no such proper way, just the individually created and needed way. The St Marys / Penrith Psychological Services acknowledges the importance of these issues, and accepts the difficulty in processing them. It particularly acknowledges and focuses on reproductive loss (miscarriage, abortion/termination, and still birth), child loss, homicide/suicide, and unacknowledged loss e.g. losses that are ?hidden?, excused and/ or lied about.
