Hawkesbury Skills Incorporated is a not for profit community organization.

We have many years experience in vocational skills training and provision of employment related services.

Mission:

Our Mission is to provide services to unemployed and other disadvantaged people, to improve their work skills and employability through partnerships with the wider community.

Objects of the Association:

? To develop and manage a service that assists unemployed and other disadvantaged people to improve their job skills, their ability to seek, obtain and retain work, and their sense of purpose and direction.

? To raise awareness of the local community to the problems of unemployed and disadvantaged people.

? To seek support in the community to assist local unemployed and disadvantaged people to develop their capacity for obtaining and retaining employment and to become more self reliant during periods of unemployment

? To work with community, business and educational groups to enhance the creation of sustainable employment opportunities.

? To manage premises and facilities, optimising resources for the benefit of the community.

HSI has information on bicycle tours of the Hawkesbury area, including self-guided tours with bike maps. These are the historical tours of Richmond and Windsor, the Richmond-Windsor loop and the Sackville loop.

HSI also has a bicycle fleet. Bicycles can be borrowed by the unemployed and disadvantaged in the Hawkesbury community. They can also be lent to community groups for events. HSI has a bicycle recycle workshop and welcomes volunteers and bicycle donations. If you wish to access more local bicycle recyclers go to www.bicyclerecycling.com

The Nursery and Garden is set on 2 hectares in the grounds of the University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury Campus. Map

The garden has been developed to provide a positive activity environment for those recovering from a mental illness and for those with an intellectual disability. Other groups also assist in the maintenance and activities in the garden and nursery, including students, Work for the Dole participants and volunteers.

Programs can be structured to facilitate groups at different ability levels. Our staff facilitate the support workers.

The commercial nursery has plant sales on the first Thursday and Saturday of every month and all funds are used to maintain the facility. Hawkesbury Skills Inc has benevolent institution status with the Australian Taxation Office and any donation is tax deductible

Facilities include:

Raised garden beds
Plots for vegetable and flower growing
Kitchen and sheltered tea room
Sheltered nursery work area.
Hothouse and Shadehouse
Chicken run
Rose garden
'Food for Thought' is the name of the program that facilitates positive activities for those with an intellectual disability or recovering from a mental illness.
